Breville Australia Joins COFOSS to Strengthen Industry Collaboration on Sustainability
The Coalition for Sustainable Solutions (COFOSS) today announced that Breville has joined the organisation as a new member, further strengthening the coalition’s growing industry collaboration to address sustainability challenges across Australia’s consumer electronics and home appliance sector.
Breville’s membership reflects the increasing momentum within the industry to work collectively on critical issues such as packaging sustainability, product stewardship, emissions reporting, and improving circular outcomes for products and materials.
COFOSS brings together manufacturers, retailers and industry stakeholders committed to reducing the environmental impacts of consumer electronics and home appliances through practical collaboration, shared solutions and policy engagement.
COFOSS Chair Kurt Hegvold welcomed Breville to the coalition and highlighted the importance of growing industry participation.
“We are delighted to welcome Breville to COFOSS. Their leadership in product innovation and growing focus on ESG priorities makes them a valuable addition to the coalition. As regulatory expectations increase and sustainability challenges become more complex, collaboration across the industry will be essential to accelerate practical solutions. Breville’s participation strengthens our collective ability to drive meaningful progress.”

Breville said joining COFOSS aligns with its broader sustainability ambitions and commitment to responsible product and packaging practices.
In 2023, Breville Group – under its global Breville | Sage brands – launched the company-wide Sustainable Brown Box initiative, transitioning from traditional coloured packaging to a recyclable outer box, fully removing EPS (expanded polystyrene), and significantly reducing soft plastics.
Nick Moore, General Manager Australia, Breville said the company sees strong value in working alongside industry peers to address shared environmental challenges.
“At Breville, sustainability is an important part of how we design products and operate as a business. We are actively progressing initiatives across our ESG agenda, including phasing out expanded polystyrene packaging, strengthening our
Scope 3 emissions reporting, and continuing to improve the energy efficiency of our products. Joining COFOSS provides an important opportunity to collaborate with industry partners to help accelerate practical, scalable solutions across the sector.”
Nick Moore, General Manager Australia, Breville
Breville joins a growing network of companies within COFOSS that recognise the importance of collective industry action to address shared sustainability challenges, including packaging waste, end-of-life product management, emissions reduction and evolving regulatory requirements.
Through its work, COFOSS aims to support industry collaboration on practical initiatives, improve knowledge sharing and help align the sector around sustainable solutions that deliver both environmental and operational outcomes.
